UNDERGROUND COMIC

UNDERGROUND COMIC

I find underground comic very honest and interest. It is a story telling tool for anyone who want to share their personal experiences or thoughts. For underground comic, anyone can make comic because they do not need to be the most visually pleasing and well rendered images. It allows reader to get the stories from first-hand experience; and also, give minority a chance to speak up and share their stories.

Underground comic artists don’t glamorize the plot; they simply deliver the story in an honest way. Not just the heroic side, but also the flawed and weak side because this is where we all can relate to. And in order to do this the artist has to reveal their ugly side, which we all have; but not many has the courage to show them to the world. But when the artist let down the wall to publish the spontaneous and weird stories, their comic become more unique and intriguing. Because the stories being told aren’t something we can share with everyone.

Psychedelic art is also very unique, like the movie The Yellow Submarine. I like how they are visually pleasing despite the lack of logic. All the creatures there doesn’t exist but they are good designs.

ASTERIOS POLYP

ASTERIOS POLYP -David Mazzucchelli- The logic of the comic is quite contradicting since the protagonist is a respectful architecture and professor, however, his design has never been built. But it works well with the fun and spontaneous stories and characters. The visual narrative is very strong with the bold choice of color and style of art. No character is drawn in the same style of art showing that everyone is different in their own way. Each one also has their own font in their word bubbles. When there is some kind of connection between characters, they will be drawn in the same manner and I believe this is a very strong visual narrative element. It also comes to my attention that the panels are autonomous compared to other structural comics with panels right next to each other. Asterios has very well-spaced between panels and illustration making it easy for us to read and skim through the comic. Sometimes a whole page would be reserved for one illustration without...

HISTORY OF COMIC BOOK

Comic books have grown to be more complicated compared to the usual Sunday Comic. With more pages to work with, more thought and consideration went into the delivery of the story and the visual elements. To enhance the narrative, sometimes a single scene would go on for many pages. Although just as many girls read comic as guys nowadays, back then comic was meant to appeal mostly to male. There were attempted to make comic for female, however, it was done by male artists. As World War II went on, women were given a chance to do comic and to represent themselves in comic. As a result, comic is consumed by both genders these days. After the war, the target for comic became veterans who are used to reading comic as a one of the main source of entertainment in the battle field. Not only does the visual storytelling got technical, the topic of the story also became more serious including crime, war, psychological issue, and sex. However, some believed that these contents should not...

PERRY BIBLE FELLOWSHIP ALMANAC

PERRY BIBLE FELLOWSHIP ALMANAC  This book was very entertaining to read. They seem like comics that I would come across online. I like how simple and straightforward the art and jokes are. The style of art ranges from round simple silhouette to rendered figures, which is very interesting. The simplicity of the art makes it more relevant and funny, while the rendered pages are very pleasing to look at.   I enjoy short comics like this because they are easy to skim through when you eat or wait for something. The stories are spontaneous between pages, you never know what is up next. There aren’t any continuous narrative so it is easy to stop reading when we need to, but because it is so funny I keep want to keep reading more.   This book is hilarious, I’m glad I got to read it during final week. This is what I needed.
